Why Do I Need An College Consultant?

Recent United States Department of Education statistics indicate that U.S. public high school students receive an average of 38 minutes of personal advising on college admission. Also, over 40% of U.S. public and private high school students hire a college consultant to assist with at least one aspect of their admissions applications. We feel that personalized one-on-one admissions consulting has become a necessity when it comes to the competitive nature of college admissions and acceptance.

Can I work with Unbounded Edge College Consulting if I don't live in the Southeastern, U.S.?

Absolutely! UECC serves clients living throughout the Southeast and the United States.

Michelle Dixon works in person or remotely via Skype, phone or email. For those we have served in programs that are distance-based, we find it to be efficient and an excellent match with students’ busy schedules. Our students who work with us remotely have proven to be equally as successful as those who meet with us in person.

What is the role of a UECC independent college counselor?

An independent counselor can supplement your school counselor’s efforts by providing additional personalized guidance throughout the college admissions process. This can include working with you to develop a balanced college list, helping you create your activity list, preparing you for college visits and interviews, explaining the admissions process to you, and helping you with brainstorming and editing components of the application and essays. Michelle Dixon will guide students and their families through every step of the college admissions process, so they can identify the colleges that will be the best academic and social fit for them. She will work with each student to help him or her portray the most comprehensive representation of who they are to the admissions committees of their chosen colleges.

An independent counselor will not contact an admissions office on behalf of the student, nor can an independent counselor “get” a student admitted. Be wary of anyone who promises to get you into a specific college – no one can guarantee admission and this premise violates the ethics of the profession.

When should my family start working with UECC?

The ideal time to begin working with Unbounded Edge College Consulting is when a student enrolls in the 9th grade. Families who start with UECC in the later years of high school often mention that they wish they had come on board sooner so that they could have accessed our strategic guidance from the beginning and used it to their student’s advantage. Many families have expressed, and we agree, that it is in the best interest of our clients to start utilizing the college counseling services to ensure a strategy that gives our students the most favorable options.

How can I get started?

If you are interested in coming on board as an Unbounded Edge client, please contact and request to schedule a no obligation, complimentary Meet and Greet session. Parents and their children should plan to attend the meeting. If families do not live in the local area, a virtual Meet and Greet session can be arranged. Families are encouraged to ask questions about topics such as our college counseling philosophy, our services, and logistical matters, such as scheduling and payment options.

Personalized guidance regarding an individual student’s circumstances is not provided in this meeting, but it is an excellent opportunity for everyone to meet before families decide how they would like to move forward.

What services does Unbounded Edge offer?

UECC offers customized educational advising and college counseling services for students enrolled in grades 9-12.

Our educational counseling services guide students in grades 9-11 towards academic pursuits and extracurricular activities that maximize a student’s potential and enable self-discovery and growth. Our students benefit from our counseling services focused on developing academic performance, extracurricular commitment, athletic goals, community service involvement, summer program plans, leadership opportunities, and more.

In addition, UECC provides strategic guidance regarding all aspects of the college search and application process to 11th and 12th graders to ensure that students are well prepared for college and beyond.

UECC also offers college counseling services for high school athletes who would like to continue competing in college and want assistance with the recruitment process of the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Families can purchase services at an hourly rate or in a package, which includes a fixed number of hours at a fixed rate. During a Meet & Greet session, Michelle Dixon can offer suggestions regarding which service option would be the best fit for your family depending on your needs.

Is there difference between hourly and counseling package services besides pricing?

When families purchase a counseling package, they often do so because they want comprehensive support over an extended amount of time. In addition, these clients expect UECC to guide students and parents in their college application process while parents take a more supportive role. UECC will take initiative in scheduling appointments, providing resources to clients, such as information about summer programs for students and reminders regarding standardized test registration, and will help keep families on schedule so that an important deadline is never missed! UECC regularly provides parents with a variety of suggestions regarding how they can best contribute to their child’s college application process. Parents are important partners in our work. Given the length of this process and the amount of work involved, there is plenty of room for teamwork!

The hourly service option is a good fit for families who want very limited assistance and who also desire to fully manage their child’s college search and application process. Hourly clients contact Unbounded Edge when services are needed, but UECC will not initiate any counseling services and generally play a smaller role in the student’s college application experience.

Do your college counseling packages include essay writing support?

Yes! Essays are a huge part of the college application and scholarship process. The essays that make up The Common Application & supplements, are not just typical pieces of writing, nor are they just another step in the application process. College essays are an uncommon genre that must catch the attention of admissions officers and illuminate students’ intellect, personality, and potential. Michelle Dixon has many years of experience guiding students in writing essays that impact the attention of admissions officers.

Do you contact college admission offices on behalf of clients?

Unbounded Edge Consulting does not contact college admission offices regarding clients and their application processes. We encourage students to contact admission offices directly with their questions.

What payment options are available for Unbounded Edge services?

UECC accepts credit cards, checks and cash for payment. In addition, payment plans are available for counseling packages, and discounts are provided to clients who pay for the total cost of a package at the time of purchase. Families who purchase packages for multiple children at once may also benefit from additional discount opportunities.
